The 27th of September is a special date in our tourism calendar, as we celebrate World Tourism Day. Did you know that this important commemoration had its roots in the beautiful city of Torremolinos? It was at the Palacio de Congresos de Torremolinos, in 1979, specifically at the third meeting of the General Assembly of the UNWTO where it was decided to pay tribute to this industry that connects people from all over the world. On this significant day, we would like to invite you to explore the marvels of Torremolinos, a place where history is laced with natural beauty and hospitality.

Explore the Treasures that give Torremolinos its name: The Pimentel Tower and the Inca Mill

When you visit Torremolinos on World Tourism Day, be sure to include a stop at the impressive Torre Pimentel on your itinerary. This ancient 12-meter high defense tower is a historical treasure that will transport you back to the Nasrid period, specifically the 13th-15th centuries.

And, of course, the Molino de Inca Botanical Garden, an enclosure where you will find more than a thousand plant species, exotic birds, some are rare in the country, and the source of 3 springs in Torremlinos: La Cueva, El Inca and Albercón del Rey. As you stroll along shady paths you will discover the magic of nature.

Pilgrimage with an ecological message

Take the opportunity on this unique day of tourism to explore the magnificent Casa de los Navajas, a historic and iconic neo-Mudejar style mansion built in 1925 that will bring you back to times gone by.

The best is… free admission!

La Batería Park: Green Lung facing the sea

El Parque de la Batería, a natural open space in the center of the city located in the northern part of Montemar.

With a surface area of 74,000 square meters, it has its origins in an old coastal defense battery that was located in this enclave.

In fact, some artillery cannons and two underground bunkers can be found there. However, the most striking element of the «La Batería» park is the Torre Mirador, which is almost 15 meters high at the edge of a cliff.

From its top you can enjoy wide panoramic views of Torremolinos and the Bay of Malaga.

Mirador de Sansueña: Breathtaking Views

The Sansueña Lookout, one of the spots you cannot miss if you come to Torremolinos, and which also forms part of the Interactive Routes you can enjoy in our town, offers you a breathtaking panoramic view of the coast of Torremolinos and the Mediterranean Sea.

From here, you will be able to capture the very essence of the city while contemplating the beauty of the horizon

Immerse yourself in the beauty of our beaches

The jewel of our town is without a doubt our coastline… therefore, on World Tourism Day we invite you to discover the beauty and diversity of its marvellous beaches, each with its own particular charm and attraction, and all of which have been awarded the Q seal of tourist quality.

La Carihuela and El Bajondillo are the two oldest and best known beaches in Torremolinos, both separated by La Punta or El Morro, a cliff of travertine stone.

La Carihuela beach stands out for its seaside neighbourhood and its promenade full of beach bars and restaurants, Bajondillo beach is the most central and cosmopolitan of the resort, with a special charm due to the old town being 45 metres above sea level.

Playamar is a more residential beach and owes its name to the Playamar Towers, an example of the «Arquitetura del Relax», so distinctive for Torremolinos. Its promenade, linked to Bajondillo, offers a wide variety of entertainment.

Finally, Los Álamos Beach, awarded with a blue flag, and its fine golden sand, is ideal for lovers of peace and quiet, but also for those who are looking for a livelier atmosphere. During the day, you can enjoy the sun in a hammock or practice water sports and at sunset, Los Alamos dresses up and music and cocktails become the real highlights.

Delight yourself: Gastronomic Experiences in Torremolinos

On World Tourism Day in Torremolinos, you can’t miss our rich local gastronomy. We strongly recommend that you try the delights of Andalusian cuisine in one of the city’s iconic restaurants.

From the famous «pescaíto frito» (fried fish) and sardine skewers at the beach bars to traditional dishes such as gazpacho, ajoblanco, ensaladilla rusa or de pimientos, eggplant with sugar cane honey, or the wide variety of meats, each mouthful is an experience that brings you closer to the authentic culinary culture of Andalusia.

Accompany your meals with a good local wine or a refreshing sangria, and don’t forget to try the traditional homemade desserts such as flan, las natillas, rice pudding or tocino de cielo… Torremolinos is expecting you with an explosion of flavors that will delight your senses on this World Tourism Day!
