In the coming days, the new Plaza Costa del Sol will be inaugurated, which will completely renovate the center of Torremolinos, welcoming an urbanism designed for the enjoyment of neighbours and visitors and where you will have the perfect opportunity to make some dreamy photos thanks to the pergola designed by Salvador Moreno Peralta and the sculpture by Elena Laverón.
If it is not the first time you visit Torremolinos, when you return from January, we assure you that you will live a totally different experience, after the pedestrianization of La Plaza Costa del Sol, a project that has completely transformed the downtown area of Torremolinos, turning this mythical square on a large boulevard.
The new square, designed by the architect Salvador Moreno Peralta, stands out for many issues, but among other things for three great iconic elements that are designed for the enjoyment of neighbours and visitors.
When you arrive at Plaza Costa del Sol, the first thing that will attract your attention is the huge pergola formed by several arches evoking the waves of the sea. It is the most striking element of the square. Right at the beginning of the pergola, you will find the other great icon of the boulevard, the spectacular sculpture by Elena Laverón, ‘Los Oficios’.
But the new design for this mythical place of Torremolinos does not forget the origins of the city, and that is why water is very present in the square, with a fountain that returns to its primitive location. The fountain dates back to 1873 and is part of the oldest furniture that our city conserves.
In addition, the green areas, wide avenues and benches have turned what was a road into a new meeting space for the residents of Torremolinos, who enjoy every day the new city center, which will also boost the cultural life of the town.

Sculpture ‘Los Oficios’
The sculptural group designed by Elena Laverón is composed of five bronze figures and temporarily, until the completion of the center’s pedestrianization works, it is located at the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Cultural Center.
If you like the sculpture made by Laverón, you should know that Torremolinos has two other works by the artist from Ceuta: El Nacimiento de Eva, exhibited in Plaza de la Nogalera and La Familia de Pie, at the junction of La Colina.
Casa María Barrabino
The new design of Plaza Costa del Sol is a project in which the city has been working for several years and which goes beyond the square itself with the recovery of the house of María Barrabino, a charming nineteenth century building that at this moment it is being rehabilitated to become a cultural icon of Torremolinos. It will be the perfect image that you will see at the end of the commercial and central San Miguel street. In Moreno Peralta’s project there is also a stairway that will connect the house with the square.
The renovation of Plaza Costa del Sol square has generated a plan for beautification of the area, with the restoration of the facades and the establishment of activities. The shops and bars are now flanked by palm trees and orange trees. And there is also the possibility of installing kiosks, flea markets, fairs and temporary exhibitions that will fill La Paza Costa del Sol Plaza even more.
In Torremolinos you can enjoy different markets and activities. La Plaza Costa del Sol will house them after its remodeling.
