A very cool beer or glass of wine, good feelings and the desire to enjoy it is all you need to spend an afternoon or night of tapas in Torremolinos, because no matter which area of the city you are, you can enjoy our gastronomy thanks to the great range of bars and restaurants that will make you have an evening that you will not forget.
But you may be wondering what a «Tapa» is?
If you come from anywhere in Spain you will surley know it, but for those visiting us from abroad, a tapa is an aperitif that usually accompanies a drink and we usually serve to whet your appetite. It’s a culinary tradition that dates back to the Middle Ages when the Catholic Kings in San Fernando in Cádiz stopped to regain strength, and the tavern keeper served King Fernando II a piece of cheese.
Going out for «Tapas» in Torremolinos
Our city has a large number of restaurants and bars where you can taste the best tapas on the Costa del Sol and discover this Andalusian custom. In addition, every year the Ruta de la Tapa is organized, where for 14 days you can enjoy a multitude of bars and restaurants taking a gastronomic tour of our city. This year If you come on holiday from Friday, May 5th to May 16th, you can enjoy the IX edition, visiting up to 51 establishments in different parts of the city.
New proposals await you in this edition. From traditional tapas that honour the classics of our popular gastronomy, to the most creative and innovative signature tapas and ‘Sabor a Málaga’ tapas made with products from the province.
So a little hungry, comfortable shoes and a will to have fun and start the route that takes you to tapas of different styles in the center, El Calvario, La Carihuela, El Pinillo, Los Álamos, Bajondillo and Playamar.
In this blog we summarize which restaurants and bars are participating in this XIV edition and to which we recommend you go, not only while the Tapa route lasts, but all year round, because in addition to the tapas with which you participate in this route, you can also savor a menu full of flavors that will introduce you to all the flavor potential that Torremolinos has.
Downtown area and Bajondillo
Here you can taste tapas with international flavor and more traditional dishes. Cremosa Ibérica, Try Malagueño sausage Buddha style, Adagio de parma ruccula, Minitosta of Iberian salmorejo, Roquetún, Savoury muffin with goat cheese, black olives and sundried tomato, Avocado and Salmon Tartar, Duven’s Style Chicken Fajita, Brillante 2.0, La tapa de la montaña, and a long list of tapas, up to 47, from which to choose. Our recommendation, take the tapasporte (Tapas passport) that you can get, as in previous years, in the tourist offices , in the Promotion Area of Culture in the City Hall and in the participating places and create your own route with the tapas that each of the participating establishments offer.

Playamar and Los Álamos area
The scent of seafaring Gastronomy can be found practically all over Torremolinos, but mainly in the areas of Bajondillo, Playamar, Los Álamos and La Carihuela, situated by the sea. Fusion cuisine and traditional accents are intertwined, creating a mix of flavors that you cannot miss.
Minicalzones, Pescando Anchoas, Patatas Bravas, Ensaladilla Rusa, Aubergines with ham and cheese, Roasted aubergine, Hummus with honey cane and toasted sesame threads, Parmiggiana a… casa nostra. You can choose from Chopp Playamar, La Playa Surf House, Pizzeria la Favorita, Kosecha, L’Clave del Sol, El Taller Playamar, A Casa Nostra.
Carihuela-Montemar area
«Pescaíto» small portions of fried fish is prevalent in this part of Torremolinos, but blends with the modern touch provided by Montemar. You will find traditional flavors along with new gastronomic contributions like Spanish Omelette Gran Baguett with porra antequerana, Salmon bonbon, Ham and cheese bartorlitos with pepper salad and fries, Ensaladilla rusa El Embarcadero, Squid in its ink Sabor a Málaga, Tapa Novecento, Tartar de Aguacate, Mini Burguer, Huevos rellenos de ensaladilla de queso, Saam de primavera con mayo kikmchee y menta. If you are near El Calvario, at Bar los Caracoles you can ejoy the tapa Despacito, to delight all of your senses.
